JAKARTA – Teacher needs in Indonesia continue to increase along with increasingly complex educational challenges. Teachers are not only required to be present as teachers in class, but also as role models that are able to set role models and inspire their students, including in remote parts of the country.
In addition, teachers are also required to have global competence in order to bring new insights into the classroom. With this provision, they are expected to be able to bridge the needs of national education as well as adapt to the development of a world that continues to move forward.
“The hope is that teachers will have competence at the global level, even though the impact and teaching will take place at the national level,” said Wahyu Setioko, S.S., MA, Ph.D., Head of the BINUS University PGSD Program, when met at Binus Campus Anggrek, Palmerah, West Jakarta on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
“We want to give birth to people who have these abilities with strong motivation and persistence to continue learning and are committed to being an inspiration to Indonesian children,” he continued.
According to Wahyu, current educators must be able to adapt to technology, master international languages and open themselves to cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Wahyu emphasized that the teaching profession is now not limited to formal classrooms, but can also contribute to the creative ecosystem, science museum to the education technology industry (EdTech).
The same thing was conveyed by Marc Irawan, CEO of CoLearn who highlighted the transformation of teacher roles in the digital era.
“Technology, especially Education Technology, will change the role of teachers from just teaching in class to a more personal, interactive, and data-based learning facilitator. Future teachers are not only teaching, but also being innovators in the global education ecosystem,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Evi Trisna, Indonesian Advisor Teaching emphasized the importance of a combination between innovation and local value.
“In Indonesia today, the role of teachers is very strategic because they are at the forefront to equip the younger generation to face the challenges of the times,” said Evi.
“My message is simple, be an educator who dares to innovate, be open to developments, and remain rooted in local values. With this combination, you can have a real impact, not only in the surrounding class or community, but also in the global scale education ecosystem,” he added.
This big vision is in line with BINUS University’s commitment to be realized through the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD).

According to him, the learning experience at PGSD BINUS provides it with a methodology of modern teaching, global competence, and cross-cultural abilities that make him confident in penetrating the world of international education.
The 2025 EduTalks event is a momentum to reinforce this vision. Combining interactive talk shows, creative entertainment, to trial classes, this event was attended by hundreds of participants from students, students, education practitioners, to industry players.
